BEIJING, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- Rainer Schuettler of Germany, at No. 4 the highest seed in action, advanced to the second round of the China Open Monday.
Schuettler defeated Paul Baccanello of Australia 6-4, 6-3.

The tournament, in its first year, is being played at the Beijing Tennis Administration Centre.
Other first-round winners included Yen-Hsun Lu of Taipei and Jarkko Nieminen of Finland.
The tournament's top seed is Carlos Moya of Spain.
