MLB: Baltimore 9, Toronto 1

TORONTO, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- Bruce Chen had his first career complete game and first victory in two seasons Monday as the Baltimore Orioles whipped the Toronto Blue Jays, 9-1.

Chen (1-0) allowed one run on five hits, striking out five in his fourth start of the season for the Orioles.

Rafael Palmeiro hit a two-run homer for the Orioles.

Vernon Wells tripled home the only run for the Blue Jays, who suffered their fourth straight loss.

Jay Gibbons had three hits and two RBI and Javy Lopez added two hits and scored twice for Baltimore, which scored five runs on six hits with two outs in the first inning off Justin Miller.

Melvin Mora doubled and scored on a hit by Tejada, and Palmeiro followed with his 18th homer to right.

Miller (3-4) only lasted the one inning, his shortest start of the season.
