Barrichello on the pole in Monza

MONZA, Italy, Sept. 11 (UPI) -- Ferrari's Rubens Barrichello held off Juan Montoya's final run Saturday to gain the pole for Sunday's Formula One Italian Grand Prix.

Barrichello got his second pole of the season with a lap of one minute, 20.089 seconds around the historic 3.599-mile, eight-turn track for the fastest qualifying lap in Formula One history.

The Brazilian won the race in 2002 and finished third to Michael Schumacher last year.

Montoya will start on the front row with Barrichello after a lap of 1:20.620.

Four-time Italian Grand Prix winner and 2004 F1 Series champion Schumacher (1:20.637) and Fernando Alonso (1:20.645) will start in row two. Takuma Sato (1:20.715) and Jenson Button (1:20.786) will start in the third row.
