MLB: Atlanta 3, Philadelphia 1

ATLANTA, Sept. 6 (UPI) -- Andruw Jones' 25th home run of the season helped the Atlanta Braves beat Philadelphia 3-1 Monday.

Travis Smith, pitching in place of Mike Hampton, held the Phillies to one run, five hits and two walks in five innings in an emergency start. Hampton was a late scratch because of a stiff neck.

Atlanta (81-55) stretched its lead over Florida in the National League East to nine games by winning for the sixth time in seven games. Philadelphia (68-69) fell 13½ games behind the Braves.

Losing pitcher Eric Milton (13-4) gave up three runs on six hits and four walks in just four innings.
