MLB: Colorado 5, San Diego 2

SAN DIEGO, Sept. 5 (UPI) -- Jeff Francis earned his first major league win Sunday as the Colorado Rockies beat the San Diego Padres, 5-2.

Francis (1-2), who was hit hard in both of his first two career major league outings, gave up five hits and one walk Sunday while pitching 5 1/3 scoreless innings.

Jeromy Burnitz his a two-run homer and Vinny Castilla and Matt Holliday each added solo homers for the Rockies, who hav won four of their last five games.

Phil Nevin hit a solo homer for the Padres, who have dropped five of their past six contests. The loss dropped San Diego three games behind Chicago for the top spot in the NL wild card race. The Cubs had a three-game series with Florida postponed this weekend because of Hurricane Frances.

Brian Lawrence (13-12) took the loss after allowing three runs on seven hits over seven innings.
