MLB: Philadelphia 8, New York Mets 1

PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 3 (UPI) -- Gavin Floyd won his major league debut with seven innings of work Friday night as Philadelphia defeated the New York Mets, 8-1.

Floyd (1-0) gave up one run on four hits with five strikeouts. He threw only 95 pitches and displayed a sharp breaking curve ball in helping Philadelphia end a three-game losing streak.

Jason Michaels homered twice and Pat Burrell and Placido Polanco had one each for the Phillies. Burrell was activated off the 15-day disabled list prior to the game.

New York starter Matt Ginter left the game after one inning due to a sprained right ankle. Heath Bell (0-2) took the loss, giving up two runs on three hits in three innings.
