David Garrard connected on 16 of 26 passes for 190 yards during the second and third periods.

Jaguars running back Fred Taylor was once again held out of the lineup with a sprained foot while No. 1 quarterback Byron Leftwich played in just three series.

Mike Cloud rushed for 93 yards on 19 carries for the Patriots (1-3), who suffered their first exhibition loss at home since 2000 on the way to their first losing preseason campaign in five years.

The score was the same as New England's regular-season opener last year in which the Patriots were blanked by Buffalo.

But New England went on to win its second Super Bowl in three years.
