Hall sidelined by hip injury

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga., Aug. 31 (UPI) -- Atlanta Falcons rookie cornerback D'Angelo Hall will miss 6-to-10 weeks because of a hip injury.

Hall suffered a partially fractured hip in Saturday's pre-season game against Tampa Bay. Hall, who also was a premier kick returner at Virginia Tech, was the eighth overall pick in the 2004 NFL draft.

"It's called posterior lip acetabular fracture," Coach Jim Mora said on the team's Web site Tuesday. "We're optimistic that he's going to be back sooner rather than later, but obviously that's just going to depend on how he heals."

Mora said Hall was given an MRI, a CT scan and X-rays before he saw a hip specialist to determine the extent of the injury.

"By no means is it season-ending (injury) or anything like that."

Mora said veterans Allen Rossum, Aaron Beasley, Kevin Mathis and Tod McBride will be counted on more heavily on kick returns in Hall's absence.
