SEATTLE, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- Bucky Jacobsen snapped a tie with a two-run double in the fifth and also homered Saturday to lead Seattle to a 9-7 win over Kansas City.
The contest was the first game of a doubleheader.
Randy Winn had three hits for the Mariners, who overcame a four-run deficit to post their second straight victory. Matt Thornton (1-2) struck out five in three hitless, shutout innings of relief for the win, and J.J. Putz earned his fifth save of the season despite allowing a run in the ninth.
Joe Randa and Desi Relaford both had two hits -- including a homer -- for the Royals, who have dropped five of their last six games. Matt Stairs added two hits, including a two-run double.
Jacobsen's two-run double chased Darrell May (9-15), who suffered the loss after surrendering six runs on nine hits in 4 1/3 innings.
