Redskins waive Ohalete

ASHBURN, Va., Aug. 18 (UPI) -- The Washington Redskins released safety Ifeanyi Ohalete, who admits, "I just wasn't getting the job done."

Rookie Sean Taylor and two-year veteran Andre Lott now will get the bulk of playing time in the Redskins' secondary. Both have played well and impressed the coaching staff in pre-season practice.

Ohalete, the former undrafted free agent out of Southern California, started 15 games last season and made a career-high 105 tackles (72 solo), two forced fumbles and three interceptions. The Washington Post reported he entered training camp third on the team's depth chart. When Taylor was made Washington's No. 1 pick in the NFL draft in June, Ohalete said he saw the handwriting on the wall.

"I kind of saw it coming," Ohalete told the newspaper. "I'm sure everybody saw it coming. So it wasn't too much of a surprise."
