Agassi defeats Roddick, faces Hewitt

CINCINNATI, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- Andre Agassi beat fellow American Andy Roddick Saturday to advance to the finals of the $2.45 million Western & Southern Financial Group Masters.

Agassi will face Australian Lleyton Hewitt, who needed just 54 minutes to dispose of Spaniard Tommy Robredo 6-3, 6-2.

Agassi, who is chasing his first ATP singles title since Houston in April 2003, beat Roddick 7-5, 6-7 (2-7), 7-6 (7-2).

The second-seeded Roddick missed an opportunity to become only the third player to successfully defend his title at the Cincinnati Masters. He fell for only the third time in his last 28 matches, having advanced to five straight finals before this week.

Hewitt avenged a loss to Robredo in the third round of last year's French Open and will be making his first appearance in a Masters Series final this year. He is in search of his third victory of 2004 and first since February.
