Tests ordered for former Baylor player

WACO, Texas, Aug. 6 (UPI) -- A Texas judge Friday ordered a psychologist to test a former Baylor University basketball player, accused of killing his former teammate last year.

State District Judge George Allen ordered the tests for Carlton Dotson, who is scheduled to go on trial for murder Oct. 11, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.

Dotson, 22, allegedly killed Patrick Dennehy, whose body was found in a gravel pit east of Waco in July 2003.

Allen's order will authorize an Austin psychologist to test Dotson's mental competence, the Star-Telegram said.

Defense attorney Russ Hunt said a psychiatrist recommended the testing to determine if Dotson is truly psychotic. He said his client has shown signs of being psychotic.

Prosecutor John Segrest did not object to the testing but said he wanted enough time to review the findings before the October trial.
