MLB: Tampa Bay 2, Seattle 1

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., Aug. 6 (UPI) -- A rare call of vision obstruction by third base umpire Paul Emmel allowed Tampa Bay to defeat Seattle in 10 innings Friday night, 2-1.

The game was tied with one out and Tampa Bay's Carl Crawford on third base in the 10th.

Tino Martinez hit a fly ball to left, where Raul Ibanez made the catch and quickly fired home -- keeping Crawford at third.

But Crawford complained that shortstop Jose Lopez purposely got in the way to block Crawford's vision, thus keeping him from seeing Ibanez catch the ball.

Emmel agreed and ruled that Crawford be awarded home plate, giving Tampa Bay the win.

A heated protest by Seattle Manager Bob Melvin did no good.
