MLB: Atlanta 6, Houston 5

HOUSTON, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Marcus Giles put Atlanta in front with a sacrifice fly in the ninth Thursday night and the Braves held off Houston, 6-5.

J.D. Drew singled with one out against Dan Miceli in the ninth and went to third on a double by Chipper Jones. The bases were loaded when Andruw Jones walked and Giles then hit a fly ball to right that was deep enough for Drew to score.

Eli Marrero's two-run homer highlighted Atlanta's four-run comeback in the sixth that tied the game at 5-5.

Juan Cruz (4-0) worked a scoreless eighth to get the win and John Smoltz gave up one hit in the ninth for his 27th save.

Houston starter Darren Oliver left the game after the first inning with tightness in his left shoulder. It was his second start for the Astros since being obtained in a trade with Florida on July 22.
