MLB: Los Angeles 2, San Diego 3

SAN DIEGO, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- The San Diego Padres notched a 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers Saturday night in the second of a three-game set at PETCO Park.

Mark Loretta and Phil Nevin delivered back-to-back RBI singles, with Nevin finishing 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Jay Payton also had a run-scoring base hit.

Kazuhisa Ishii threw 6 1/3 strong innings and hit his first career home run for Los Angeles.

Akinori Otsuka (6-2) picked up the win after striking out David Ross with two on in the top of the eighth and Trevor Hoffman fanned two of the three hitters he faced during a perfect ninth to record his 29th save.

The game featured a duel between Ishii and Padres starter Jake Peavy, who allowed just two runs and seven hits while fanning nine in 7 2/3 frames. Ishii scattered one run and four hits. He walked three and struck out seven.
