ST. LOUIS, July 30 (UPI) -- Heavy rain Friday forced postponement of the second round of the U.S. Senior Open golf tournament at St. Louis.

The event will resume Saturday at the Bellerive Country Club.

Peter Jacobsen's opening 65 gave him the first-round lead by a stroke over Craig Stadler and two over Jay Haas.

The course was unplayabable after the rain.

"There was no way to get the course ready to play," said USGA official Walter Driver. "I'm told the seventh fairway is completely under water. The third green, I'm told, is functionally an island green and there wasn't any way to get people out there."

Eighteen holes are to be played Saturday and 36 Sunday, Driver said.

Gil Morgan, Bob Gilder, Wayne Levi, Jose Maria Canizares and Don Pooley were tied for fourth place at 68.

Defending champion Bruce Lietzke shot a 4-over par 75 in the first round.
