Stupples, 31, of Dover, England, birdied two of the last three holes at Sunningdale Golf Club to move ahead of the field.

"To start a tournament, that was a pretty special day," she said."It was very fantastic to do it in front of a home crowd. I was nervous to start because I always want to play well when I come home."

Sorenstam had seven birdies and three bogeys.

"I'm very happy to start out with a 68. It's a good start," the Swedish star said.
