MLB: Atlanta 1, Pittsburgh 0

PITTSBURGH, July 28 (UPI) -- Russ Ortiz won the 100th game of his career Wednesday night by throwing seven shutout innings as Atlanta blanked Pittsburgh, 1-0.

The game's only run came on a homer by Chipper Jones.

Ortiz (12-6) scattered nine hits and struck out four to win his sixth straight decisions.

Atlanta's run came in the fourth as Oliver Perez made the mistake that gave him the loss. Perez (6-5) gave up just hits and struck out 10 over 8 1/3 innings.

Pittsburgh batters failed to produce a hit in seven tries with runners in scoring position.

John Smoltz retired the only three batters he faced to earn his 22nd save in 24 chances.
