MILWAUKEE, July 23 (UPI) -- Carlos Franco shot a 7-under 63 Friday to take the lead at the U.S. Bank Championship, one of two tournaments he has won on the PGA Tour.
The 1999 winner of this event finished 36 holes at 9-under 131 to grab a one-shot advantage over 2002 PGA champion Rich Beem.
Franco, whose last victory came in New Orleans four years ago, is best known on the PGA Tour for his practice habits. He rarely visits the practice tee and hits only a few balls each day before beginning his round.
"It's no complication," Franco said. "Maybe I need it (practice), but I don't like it. I'd rather go fishing."
