Buccaneers sign top draft pick

TAMPA, Fla., July 23 (UPI) -- The Tampa Bay Buccaneers Friday announced the signing of wide receiver Michael Clayton, the team's No. 1 draft pick.

The 6-3, 197-pounder helped LSU win the Bowl Championship Series national title last season.

Clayton was the 15th overall selection in the draft and the highest pick the Buccaneers ever used on a wide receiver.

"He's a big, physical, tough guy with great hands, and he learns quick," said Coach Jon Gruden.

Clayton caught 182 passes for 2,582 yards and 21 touchdowns in three seasons at LSU, breaking the school's record for scoring receptions.
