PITTSBURGH, July 16 (UPI) -- Kris Benson worked 8 1/3 innings Friday night while Jason Bay and Rob Mackowiak homered to give Pittsburgh a 6-2 win over Florida.
Benson (7-7) gave two runs and eight hits. Mackowiak went three for four and Randall Simon had two hits and an RBI for Pittsburgh.

Benson just missed what would have been his first complete game in 25 months. He was lifted after giving up three hits and a run in the ninth.
Jose Mesa recorded the last two outs for his 23rd save.
Pittsburgh broke the game open with a four-run fourth highlighted by Jason Kendall's two-run single.
