KANSAS CITY, Mo., July 10 (UPI) -- Matt Taylor scored in the 17th minute and Tony Meola recorded his MLS-record 54th shutout Saturday as Kansas City posted a 1-0 victory over D.C.United.

Playing in just his second professional game, Taylor provided the game's offense when he put a loose ball in the box by goalkeeper Troy Perkins.

Meola made the lead stand as he made four saves.

Kansas City (8-4-4) improved to 5

2 in its last seven games.

Perkins also made four saves as D.C. United (5-6-5) fell below the .500 mark.
