Jerry Pate leads Long Island Classic

EAST MEADOW, N.Y., July 3 (UPI) -- Jerry Pate shot a 66 Saturday for a 10-under 130 and the second round lead in the senior Long Island Classic.

Bobby Wadkins, who shared the first round lead with Pate and Peter Jacobsen, had a 68 and is alone in second place at 8-under.

Jacobsen, making just his second appearance on the Champions Tour, followed an opening 64 with a 4-over-par 74 Saturday and slipped eight strokes off the pace.

Tom Jenkins shot a 66 and is tied with Mike Hill at 7-under.

Andy Bean had the best round of the day with a 65 and is 5-under overall.

Defending champion Jim Thorpe is 6-under after shooting a 69.
