FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., June 29 (UPI) -- Linebacker Willie Williams, who has signed with the Miami Hurricanes, admitted violating probation for burglary Tuesday in a Fort Lauderdale, Fla., court.
Circuit Judge Michael Kaplan set sentencing for next Tuesday, but there still is a chance Williams may be able to enroll at the University of Miami, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported.
Williams, 19, was placed on probation for a stereo shop burglary in 2002.
He violated the probation on a recruiting trip to the University of Florida in January when he was charged with setting off a fire extinguisher in a hotel and hugging a woman against her will.
He pleaded no contest to those charges.
Although Kaplan warned Williams -- a star at Miami Carol City High School -- he could face a year in the Broward County jail, the prosecution said it was not seeking prison time.
University officials said Williams' career at Miami, where he has signed a letter of intent, may hinge on whether Kaplan gives him the chance to finish probation and get the charge cleared from his record.
