Bautista started the season with the Baltimore Orioles, batting .273 (3-for-11) in 16 games while playing four different positions.

The 23-year-old from the Dominican Republic was designated for assignment by the Orioles on May 25 and claimed off waivers by the Devil Rays on June 3.

To make room for Bautista on the 40-man roster, Kansas City transferred pitcher Kevin Appier to the 60-day disabled list. The righthander's timetable to return has not changed.
