MLB: San Francisco 4, Boston 0

SAN FRANCISCO, June 20 (UPI) -- Edgardo Alfonzo snapped a scoreless tie with his fourth career grand slam off Mike Timlin in the seventh Sunday as San Francisco beat Boston, 4-0.

The homer made a winner of Jason Schmidt (9-2), who pitched his second one-hitter of the season and extended his winning streak to a career-high nine games. It was the 14th career shutout for Schmidt, who walked two and struck out nine.

Bronson Arroyo (2-6) allowed four hits in 6 1/3 innings. The only hit Schmidt gave up was a one-out double by Kevin Youkilis with one out in the sixth.

Arroyo surrendered a one-out double to Michael Tucker in the seventh, then walked Marquis Grissom, forcing the Red Sox to pitch to Barry Bonds.

Bonds popped up, but the ball dropped between third baseman Youkilis and left fielder Kevin Millar for a single.
