WASHINGTON, June 12 (UPI) -- D.C. United had possession for much of the night and created several scoring chances but settled Saturday for a 0-0 tie with the Colorado Rapids.
Jaime Moreno returned after missing two games for United and nearly clicked with Ronald Cerritos at the half-hour mark. As Cerritos closed on the net, goalkeeper Joe Cannon cut down the angle, forcing a shot that trickled just wide of the far goalpost.
Minutes later, midfielder Earnie Stewart should have put D.C. in front, but his shot from the top of the box sailed over the crossbar.
Colorado's best chance before halftime came in stoppage time. Antonio de la Torre whipped in a dangerous ball off a corner kick that Chris Henderson flicked toward the net. But rookie goalkeeper Troy Perkins made a save to keep the game scoreless.
