SAN DIEGO, June 2 (UPI) -- Jay Payton drove in Sean Burroughs with a two-out single in the 10th inning Wednesday as San Diego nipped Colorado, 2-1.
Colorado reliever Brian Fuentes (1-2) hit Burroughs to lead off the inning. Burroughs advanced on a sacrifice by Mark Loretta and went to third on Brian Giles' grounder to second.
Fuentes intentionally walked Phil Nevin before Manager Clint Hurdle called on Vladimir Nunez to face Payton, who singled to right.
Payton, who played for Colorado the two previous seasons, had a pair of singles and walked twice. He extended his hitting streak to 11 games, during which he is batting .429.
Trevor Hoffman (1-0) pitched a scoreless 10th inning for his first win in two seasons.
Burroughs has hit in 14 straight games.
