MEMPHIS, May 29 (UPI) -- David Toms enjoyed another big round Saturday and has opened a commanding seven-shot lead after the third round of the St. Jude Classic.
The defending champion, Toms carded a 6-under-par 65 to steer clear of the depleted field at the $4.7 million event. His round included seven birdies and a bogey as he moved to 18-under 195 through 54 holes.
Entering this event mired in a season-long slump, Toms has had three straight rounds in the 60s, including Friday's bogey-free 63 that matched his best round of the year.
Toms, who captured this event last year with a three-shot victory over Nick Price, is seven shots clear of Vaughn Taylor heading into Sunday's final round.
Taylor entered the day one shot behind Toms but shot an even-par 71 to move to 11-under 202 overall. Brian Gay is third, eight strokes back.
