Willie Williams returns to Steelers

PITTSBURGH, May 27 (UPI) -- Cornerback Willie Williams is returning to Pittsburgh, where he began his NFL career more than a decade ago.

The Steelers Wednesday signed the 33-year-old Williams, who played the last seven years with the Seattle Seahawks.

The veteran is expected to compete for the cornerback job formerly held by DeWayne Washington, who was waived after last season.

Williams was a seventh-round draft pick of the Steelers in 1993. He had seven interceptions, the best single-season total of his career, with Pittsburgh in 1995.

In 1997, Williams signed with Seattle as a free agent and played corner and nickel back with the Seahawks, both as a starter and as a backup.
