Browns sign Heiden to new deal

CLEVELAND, May 26 (UPI) -- The Cleveland Browns Wednesday signed tight end Steve Heiden to a three-year contract extension.

Heiden was sidelined by an ankle injury suffered against Kansas City last season and missed the team's last seven games.

He made 18 receptions for 134 yards in 2002 and has 49 catches for 326 yards in his four-year career.

Heiden split time last season with Aaron Shea and Darnell Sanders at both tight end and H-back and will be counted on to help highly-touted draftee Kellen Winslow Jr. at tight end.

"We are building something special here, and I want to be a part of it," Heiden said.

Heiden originally was a seventh-round pick by San Diego in 2003.
