BOSTON, May 26 (UPI) -- Fenway Park, the oldest park in the Major Leagues, may soon undergo renovations, keeping the Boston Red Sox on the field they have called home for 92 years.
Red Sox officials told the Boston Globe they hope to have a plan for renovations, including the addition of seats to push capacity at the park to 40,000, by the end of the season.
Since the Red Sox were purchased in 2002, team owners have added seats to Fenway, including putting some atop the famous Green Monster that serves as the field's left-field wall.
Plans being considering for next winter include seats on the roof and a new building for team offices, allowing more in-stadium space for fans. No public funds would be sought to defray construction expenses, the team said.
Such plans are signs that the team doesn't look to move from Fenway Park where the Red Sox have played since 1912.
Principal team owner John Henry told Wednesday's Globe: "I love Fenway. I don't think you can replicate the magic you have here. It would never feel like Fenway."
