NEW YORK, May 25 (UPI) -- Mike Piazza had a homer and two RBI and Steve Trachsel 6 2/3 innings Tuesday as the New York Mets beat Philadelphia, 5-0, for Eric Milton's first loss.
Acquired from Minnesota during the winter, Milton (5-1) had been flawless in his first stint in the NL, winning his first five decisions, including his previous three starts.
Most of the damage was done by Piazza. The all-time leader in home runs as a catcher gave the Mets a 1-0 lead during a two-out rally in the third inning with an RBI single before increasing the advantage to 3-0 with a solo blast in the sixth.
Piazza, who broke Carlton Fisk's record for most homers by a catcher with his 352nd on May 5, hit his 10th.
Trachsel (5-3) improved to 9-7 lifetime against the Phillies, allowing four hits.
Milton yielded three runs and six hits in six innings.
