Brazilian wins Indy 100

INDIANAPOLIS, May 22 (UPI) -- Thiago Medeiros of Brazil won his second straight IRL Menard's Infiniti Pro Series Futaba Freedom 100 Satuday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Medeiros overtook Jeff Simmons on lap 13 and led the remaining 27 laps. The race finished under caution when Rolando Quintanilla crashed into the inside wall on the second turn of lap 38. He was uninjured.

Medeiros, who drives for Sam Schmidt Motorsports, has won three of the past four Menards Infiniti Pro Series races. He averaged 141.931 miles per hour.

Simmons, who started third in the No. 14 A.J. Foyt Racing entry, finished second. Medeiros' teammate, Arie Luyendyk Jr., was third. USAC Sprint Car Series points leader Jay Drake and Phil Giebler, who won the opener at Homestead-Miami Speedway, rounded out the top five.
