Three seeds advance at Casablanca tennis

CASABLANCA, Morocco, May 17 (UPI) -- Anthony Dupuis of France led three seeded players Monday into the second round at the Grand Prix Hassan II.

The third-seeded Frenchman defeated countryman Arnaud Di Pasquale, 7-6 (8-6), 6-4, at this French Open tuneup. Dupuis won his first career title this year in Milan.

Seventh seed Thierry Ascione of France, who reached the quarterfinals in Chennai this year, dispatched local wild card Mehdi Tahiri, 6-3, 6-4.

Eighth-seeded Spaniard Oscar Hernandez beat Mounir El Aarej, 6-4, 6-4. Hernandez reached the second round in Hamburg last week after Sjeng Schalken retired in the first set.

Switzerland's Ivo Heuberger eliminated sixth seed Dennis Van Scheppingen of the Netherlands, 6-4, 6-2.

Also moving into the second round were Santiago Ventura of Spain, Argentina's Juan-Pablo Guzman, Simone Vagnozzi of Italy, Spain's Albert Portas, Argentine Federico Browne and Nicolas Mahut of France.
