Truex Jr. wins Busch Series Charter 250

MADISON, Ill., May 8 (UPI) -- Martin Truex, Jr. Saturday became the first pole-sitter to win in the eight-year history of NASCAR Busch Series Charter 250.

Truex drove his Chevrolet Monte Carlo to an easy victory over Ron Hornaday. It was a dominant performance for Truex, who broke the qualifying mark earlier in the day with a lap of 33.554 seconds around the 1 1/4-mile oval.

His 134.112 miles per hour bettered Casey Atwood's July 1999 mark. Truex went out and led 122 of 200 laps to win for the third time this season.

The New Jersey native also won from the pole for the first time.

Truex's two other wins this season came at the Sharpie Professional 250, where he started second, and two races ago at the Aaron's 312, where he started third.

Hornaday was second in a Chevrolet while Jason Keller was third in a Ford Taurus.
