MUNICH, Germany, April 29 (UPI) -- Top seed Rainer Schuettler beat countryman Tommy Haas Thursday to reach the quarterfinals of the BMW Open in Germany.
Schuettler won 6-4, 2-6, 6-4.

Radek Stepanek of the Czech Republic beat his countryman, third-seeded Jiri Novak, 6-3, 7-5 to move into the quarterfinals.
Luis Horna of Peru also advanced when his opponent, seventh-seeded Taylor Dent of the United States, quit with an ankle injury. Horna was leading 6-4, 3-1 at the time.
Russia's Nikolay Davydenko defeated Victor Hanescu of Romania 6-7 (6-8), 6-2, 6-4 in a match between unseeded players.
