The Rams finished this season with a 23-8 record, won the Colonial Athletic Association championship and played in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1996, losing in the opening round to Wake Forest.

Capel's record in two years at VCU is 41-18.

"I am happy and excited that this (contract extension) is completed," Capel said. "We have created a strong foundation here at VCU over the past two seasons and now look to build on his success."
