Suspect charged in soccer star's death

Lucky Iromuanya, 22, was charged and held in the Lancaster County Jail.

Cooper, 21, and Nolan Jenkins, 22, were struck by the same bullet during a party at Cooper's home Sunday to celebrate the end of the spring exhibition soccer season, investigators said.

Police said party guests had confronted Iromuanya about some shot glasses stolen from the house, which Cooper shared with another woman. An argument started and a shot was fired, the bullet grazing Jenkins' head and striking Cooper.

Jenkins was hospitalized in fair condition.

The Lincoln Journal Star reported the suspect told police he felt imtimidated by partygoers and meant to fire a warning shot.

A Derringer-type pistol was recovered when the man was arrested, Police Chief Tom Casady said.

Cooper, a defender for her team, started 69 games and helped the Cornhuskers to three appearances in the NCAA Tournament.

"She was a true student-athlete in every sense," said John Walker, coach of the NU soccer team. "She was truly a beautiful person."
