Blue Jays place Myers on disabled list

MINNEAPOLIS, April 27 (UPI) -- The Toronto Blue Jays placed Greg Myers on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, one day after the veteran catcher suffered a sprained left ankle.

While approaching third base in the eighth inning of Monday's 6-1 victory at Minnesota, Myers stepped awkwardly on the bag, causing his ankle to buckle. He fell to the ground and was tagged out before being taken from the field on a cart.

In his second stint with Toronto, the 38-year-old Myers enjoyed the finest season of his 15-year career in 2003, hitting .307 with 15 home runs and 52 RBI. He is batting .222 in eight games this year.

To replace Myers on the roster, the Blue Jays purchased the contract of catcher Gregg Zaun from Class AAA Syracuse of the International League.
