New England 1, MetroStars 1

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., April 25 (UPI) -- The New England Revolution battled the MetroStars to a 1-1 draw Sunday at Giants Stadium to earn their first point of the 2004 season.

Rookie Clint Dempsey scored his first MLS goal in the 12th minute for the Revolution, who had dropped their first two games of the season.

The Revolution seized the attacking initiative from the opening whistle and finally cashed in when Dempsey volleyed home a powerful shot off the bounce. Jay Heaps set up the goal when he outleaped MetroStars defender Jeff Parke for the ball.

The Metros came right back on the attack, tying it in the 14th minute when Amada Guevara's well placed, bending shot to the far goalpost eluded the diving save attempt of goalkeeper Adin Brown.
