MLB: Pittsburgh 8, NY Mets 1

NEW YORK, April 18 (UPI) -- Kris Benson tied a major league record with four sacrifices Sunday as Pittsburgh completed a three-game sweep of the New York Mets with an 8-1 win.

Benson (2-0), who turned in his second straight impressive outing, became the first National League player with four sacrifices in a game since Brooklyn's Jake Daubert in 1914. The last player to do it was Cleveland's Felix Fermin in an extra-inning game on Aug. 22, 1989.

Sidelined for the final 2 1/2 months of last season due to shoulder problems, Benson alloweed one run and six hits in seven innings with two walks and five strikeouts.

New York starter Jae Seo (0-2) was pounded for seven runs and 10 hits in 4 1/3 innings. The Pirates tied a season high with 17 hits.

The Pirates broke it open with five runs in the fifth.
