MILTON, Fla., April 16 (UPI) -- Fuzzy Zoeller fired a bogey-free 5-under 65 Friday and had a one-shot lead after the first round of the Blue Angels Classic.
Zoeller, who won the season-opening MasterCard Championship, was one shot better than defending champion Bob Gilder and Gil Morgan, who won the SBC Classic last month.
Zoeller's round was highlighted by three straight birdies beginning at the sixth.
Two shots off the lead were Jim Ahern, Walter Hall, Bobby Lincoln and Doug Tewell.
There were 15 players at 68, including Tom Purtzer, who won the Toshiba Senior Classic last month.
Hubert Green, continuing his comeback from throat cancer, shot a 10-over 80 and was in 72nd place. It is Green's second event of the season, having finished 37th in the MasterCard Championship.
