MLB: Los Angeles 7, San Diego 5

SAN DIEGO, April 16 (UPI) -- Juan Encarnacion drove in a pair of runs and Alex Cora added two hits and scored twice Thursday night as Los Angeles outlasted San Diego, 7-5.

Los Angeles has won two of three in each of its first three series, two against San Diego. Encarnacion, the No. 6 hitter, and Cora, the No. 8 hitter, combined to go five for seven Thursday night.

Padres starter Brian Lawrence (1-1) failed to hold a 3-0 lead after two innings. Cora's leadoff triple triggered a four-run outburst in the third, which was capped by Encarnacion's two-out RBI single.

Encarnacion also added an RBI single that finished a two-run seventh and made it 7-3.

Los Angeles starter Hideo Nomo (2-1) settled down after a shaky start, allowing three runs and six hits in five innings.
