MLB: Oakland 8, Seattle 6

OAKLAND, Calif., April 10 (UPI) -- The Oakland Athletics got a lift from their offense and a boost from the Seattle defense for an 8-6 win.

Scott Hatteberg capped a three-run seventh-inning with one of Oakland's team record-tying eight doubles against the Seattle Mariners Friday night.

Seattle's Randy Winn lost a ball during the 7th as it hit the top of his glove and rolled to the wall for a three-base error.

"When a lefthander hits it into the left-center gap it usually fades, but he said it took off the other way," Seattle manager Bob Melvin said. "It had to take a wicked turn on him."

"That ball didn't do what I thought it would," Winn told Sports Illustrated SI.com. "It cut back completely the opposite way. I thought I'd get it to my right and it took off the other way."
