Harrington wins Masters Par-3

AUGUSTA, Ga., April 7 (UPI) -- Padraig Harrington won the Masters par-3 tournament Wednesday and Tiger Woods took no chances with the jinx associated with the event.

The exhibition tourney is held each year on the eve of the Masters and no winner of the par-3 contest has ever gone on to win the main event.

Woods wound up tied for the lead with Harrington and Eduardo Romero after the nine holes, but Woods had a previous commitment and did not take part in the playoff.

Harrington wound up beating Romero on the third playoff hole.

Woods made a hole-in-one at the ninth hole Wednesday, as did Jay Haas. Defending Masters champ Mike Weir aced No. 2 and Phillip Price aced No. 7.
