Zach Johnson leads BellSouth Classic

DULUTH, Ga., April 2 (UPI) -- Zach Johnson grabbed a two-stroke lead over fellow Nationwide Tour graduate Craig Bowden and two others Friday after two rounds of the BellSouth Classic.

Johnson shot a 6-under 66 to move to 9-under 135 for 36 holes. That was two strokes better than Bowden, who carded a 71; defending champion Ben Crane, who had a 69; and Tim Petrovic, who shot a 70.

"You're playing with your idols, the guys you watched on TV and things like that," said Bowden, a 35-year-old journeyman. "It's hard to get adjusted to that and I'm finally getting over that. It's becoming a lot of fun."

Most of golf's bigger names are skipping this event, the final one before the Masters.

The players battled temperatures in the 50s and winds gusting to 30 miles per hour Friday. There were only 15 rounds in the 60s.
