NHL: Ottawa 3, Philadelphia 1

PHILADELPHIA, April 2 (UPI) -- Defenseman Zdeno Chara had a goal and an assist and Martin Prusek made 39 saves Friday night to carry Ottawa past Philadelphia, 3-1.

Sparked by Martin Havlat's high-sticking infraction against Mark Recchi on Feb. 26, the Flyers tried to exact revenge in the teams' next meeting on March 5.

A total of 10 fights occurred in the final two minutes as the teams combined for an NHL-record 419 penalty minutes.

No such antics took place in this one as the Senators were all business and pulled even with idle Boston atop the Northeast Division.

Chara snapped a 1-1 tie midway through the second period and Peter Bondra added a power-play tally in the third, extending Ottawa's unbeaten streak to five games (3

1).

Prusek turned aside 23 shots over the first two periods, then stopped 16 in the third.

Michal Handzus scored his third goal in four games for the Flyers, who remained two points ahead of second-place New Jersey in the Atlantic Division.
