PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla., March 28 (UPI) -- Adam Scott made a clutch 10-footer Sunday to win the Players Championship by one stroke over Padraig Harrington.
After putting his second shot in the water at the final hole, the 23-year-old Australian rolled in a the 10-footer for bogey to became the youngest winner of the event, regarded as the biggest on the PGA Tour outside the four majors.
Scott had a 2-under-par 70 to finish at 12-under 276. Harrington, the fast-finishing Irishman, shot a 66, playing the back nine in 30 to finish at 277.
It was Scott's fifth professional victory, second on the PGA Tour. He earned $1.44 million.
Scott said the chipping lesson he received early in the week from his hero, Greg Norman, paid off. He got up-and-down from 34 yards for the victory.
John Daly qualified for next week's Masters.
