Kennedy has three-shot lead in Portugal

SANTO DA SERRA MADEIRA, Portugal, March 27 (UPI) -- Brad Kennedy of Australia had a three-stroke lead Saturday after the third day of the rain-plagued Madeira Island Open.

Kennedy was 9-under par after six holes of his third round at Santo da Serra, three ahead of second-round leader Jamie Spence of England, Sweden's Steven Jeppesen and Denmark's Knud Storgaard.

Lengthy rain delays on Thursday and Friday had a carryover effect into Saturday's round, which eventually was suspended due to darkness.

The round will resume on Sunday morning and tournament officials are hoping to complete all 72 holes by Sunday night.

If not, a Monday finish remains a possibility, especially with the next tournament taking place in Portugal.

Spence held a one-shot lead after the completion of the second round on Saturday but quickly surrendered that advantage in blustery conditions in the afternoon.
